Kochi: Muslim and Christian groups in Kerala, which have often been embroiled in controversies over religious matters, are now displaying their differences under the guise of a film. Both the groups have recently announced the release of the film in the name of each other's prophets. According to the report, the whole controversy started when Mollywood director Nadirshah started directing his film 'Eesho: Not from the Bible.' The film stars Jayasuriya as the actor in the lead. It was this film that angered the Christians of the province. Nadirshah claimed that the name Jesus used in the film is a character and not Jesus-Christ. But, Christian groups did not listen to anyone.

Former MLA PC George expressed anger at Nadirshah saying the entire Mollywood is being controlled by Islamic extremists. Even after the controversy, Nadirshah in a Facebook post on August 2 said that he will not change the name of his movie. "This film has nothing to do with Jesus Christ, the son of God, whom I have great respect for." It is only the name of one character. Therefore, we have decided to remove the tagline 'Not from Bible' given that the title has disquieting the dear brothers in the Christian community. Nadirshah further said that he believes in "equal respect for all religions" and his friends are also from all religions. The director claimed that any punishment will be accepted by people if their sentiments are hurt after the release of the film.

Talking to the media, Nadirshah again said, "The title of the film cannot be changed. The title and first look of 'Eesho' were released three months ago. No one came against the poster or tagline at that time.'' However, after releasing another of my films last week (late July), many have objected to the poster of 'Eesho.' The Mollywood director even claimed that the title was suggested by his 'Christian' cameraman Robbie Varghese.
