DOHA:  Mexico's 2-1 win over Saudi Arabia was not enough for Mexico national football team -El Tri - to qualify for the FIFA World Cup knockout stage with Poland snatching the second qualifying spot in Group C behind Argentina.

Mexico scored twice in a span of five minutes in the second half on Wednesday to give Mexico a 2-0 lead after going scoreless in their first two games, as the Saudi defence appeared to crumble.

On a night of incredible drama in Doha, Mexico scored two goals-Henry Martin and Luis Chavez--in the thrilling Group C match, but painfully exited the World Cup on goal differential.

With Mexico leading by the same score at Lusail Stadium in the 94th minute and Argentina defeating Poland 2-0 in Group C at Stadium 974, Gerardo Martino's team needed one more goal to keep them from being eliminated in accordance with FIFA's fair play regulation.

Mexico kept playing after having goals from Hirving Lozano in the 55th and Uriel Antuna in the 87th disallowed for offside. They still needed one more goal to catch Poland.

The Mexican players were sent packing by Salem Al Dawsari's late consolation goal for Saudi Arabia, leaving the Polish players to celebrate across the field.

The Fifa World Cup has not been officially bid on by Saudi Arabia
