India lost the 5th ODI against Australia by 25 runs on Wednesday and with this victory the visitors clinched the five-match series 3-2. Aaron Finch's men won the series-decider by 35 runs to hand captain Virat Kohli his first ODI series defeat at home. Despite the defeat, the Kedar Jadhav and Bhuvneshar Kumar scripted a unique record in the final ODI.

Chasing a challenging target of 273 runs, India got off to a shaky start losing opener Shikhar Dhawan (15) cheaply. Rohit Sharma then scored a watchful half-centur to combine with Kohli and post a 53-run stand with the second wicket. The Indian middle-order then faltered as Rishabh Pant, Vijay Shankar and Ravindra Jadeja were all dismissed. Jadhav and Bhuvneshar then combined to steady the ship for India and keep the tea,  alive in the chase as the duo battled the Australian bowling attack with immense grit and determination. While Jadhav struck a composed 44, Bhuvneshwar bagged a gritty 46 and the duo added 91 runs together for the seventh wicket.  With their partnership, they surpassed Harbhajan Singh and Praveen Kumar's record of best partnership for the seventh or lower wicket for India while chasing against Australia in an ODI match. Harbhajan and Praveen registered an 84-run partnership against Australia in Vadodara in 2009 while chasing.

After winning the first two games on the trot, India were deemed favourites to win the series but Australia made a stunning comeback to script history and clinch the series by 3-2.
