In the fight against the coronavirus pandemic, to find a vaccine is big challenge and vaccinating the 1.3 billion Indian population is another challenge to be faced. The same was addressed by the PM in the inaugural function of the Grand Challenges Annual Meeting 2020 held on Monday. Under The National Digital Health Mission (NDHM) PM has announced the creation of digital health ID for every Indian in his independence day speech.

About the devlopments of COVID-19 vaccine in India he said ,"India is now at the forefront of vaccine development for Covid- 19. Some of the vaccines are in advanced stages and we are not stopping here; India is already working on putting a well-established vaccine delivery system in place. This digitised network, along with the digital health ID, will be used to ensure immunization of our citizens". The digital health ID is a 14 digit number generated on the website, healthid.ndhm.gov.in. 6 UTs Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Chandigarh, Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu, Lakshadweep, Ladakh and Puducherry is running the pilot project. Id can be created by using either Aadhar or Mobile number. After the ID generation, system asks to generate alias @ similar to email id with a password for easy accessibility. It can be generated in health facility physically once complete roll out using aadhar is done.

The NDHM creates digital ecosystem for healthcare and on a later stage integrates it with telemedicine and e-pharmacies. With digital ID all the health records will be stored in the cloud and the ownership lies with the individual. It is of the form of mobile app of a website. The implementation of NDHM will be lead by National Health Authority (NHA), which administers the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY).
