New Delhi:  While the sales of the hygiene products increased, the Detergent sales took a dip during corona pandemic.  This declines accused because of the work from home as people put off their formal wear and office clothes in the attic.

According to the report, the biggest manufacturer of detergent products, Hindustan Unilever said that laundry consumption declined as people remain inside their home. HUL CFO Srinivas Phatak said, “Some of the purchases that we witnessed when people stepped out, have not come through levels that they should have."

According to Euromonitor International, In the April-September period, sales growth of detergents (powder)  nearly halved to 7% as compared to 12% growth in the year earlier. Liquid detergent sales expanded at 13% as compared to 32% in 2019. Premium brands and products also faced the burnt of lockdown.  The liquid fabric softeners and stain removers grew 2% as compared to 13% and 10%  in 2019. Consulting firm Kantar Worldpanel which tracks household consumption reportedly said that the cloth softeners rose56% in March-August period as compared to 84% in 2019. The stain remover segment declined 36% as compared to 10% growth in 2019.
