Varanasi: The second Dev Deepawali of Kashi will be celebrated on Tuesday (December 6) at the ongoing Kashi-Tamil Sangamam in Varanasi, the city of Baba Vishwanath. This Deepawali will not be on the lunar almanac of the north but according to the solar almanac of the south, Tamil Kartika Purnima. Let us know that this festival celebrated with pomp in the south is called 'Karthigai Deepam Utsav'. According to Kartika month traditions, there is not much distance between the north and south.

In North India, lamps are lit throughout the month in Kartika. Deepotsav is celebrated as Dev Deepawali on Kartika Purnima. The same custom is in South India based on the lunar calendar. Here Kartika month falls after Kartika in the north. During this whole month, there is a tradition of fasting till sunset, lighting lamps in temples, and decorating with lamps on the full moon night. Padmashri Chamukrishna Shastri, convenor of Kashi-Tamil Sangamam, has informed that this time the Karthigai Deepam festival is being held in Kashi. Tamil families from Kashi have also been invited along with Tamil guests who came to Sangamam for this festival. Students and Tamil artists from Kashi Hindu University (BHU) will also arrive here. The venue at Amfi Theatre will be illuminated with thousands of lamps. Also, according to the tradition of the South, worship and fireworks will also be done.

What is its mythology:-

Let us tell you that when the dispute between Prajapati Brahma and Lord Vishnu started over who is supreme, at that time Devadhidev Mahadev appeared between them in the form of Jwala. Mahadev asked both Brahma and Vishnu to find out the end of this flame and declare the first returnee as the best. Lord Vishnu went downstairs in the Varaha form, while Brahma flew upwards in the form of a swan. However, Vishnu could not find the end of Jwala Rupi Mahadev, but Brahma returned with a flower called Thajumpu and claimed to have found the upper end of the flame. Mahadev caught Brahma's lie and cursed Brahma for never being worshiped. According to Tamil belief, Mahadev appeared in the form of Jwala on the day of Karthigai.
