NEW DELHI: India's participation in the Davis Cup to be held in Pakistan remains a state of doubt. India is concerned about the safety of its team. National Tennis Federation of India urges ITF to conduct fresh security checks. However, India has abandoned the demand for a change of place. The Davis Cup match is scheduled to be held in Islamabad on September 14 and 15, but India's play is considered uncertain due to political tensions with Pakistan.

Following the decision of the Central Government to remove Section 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, Pakistan has reduced diplomatic relations with India. "We know you had conducted a security check before the diplomatic relations broke down," AITA Secretary Hiranya Chatterjee said in an email to ITF Executive Director Justin Albert. The ITF can conduct another security check to ensure its satisfaction and the safety of the parties concerned. He had earlier said that the AITA could demand a neutral counter-fight.

He, however, wrote in the letter, "AITA is awaiting your final approval on security. The details of the detailed security program from the arrival of the team to the departure are available so that we can apply for the players' visa. AITA said it would follow the ITF's directives. Sports Minister Kiran Rijiju refused to intervene in the matter.
