On July 1, Devshayani Ekadashi will be celebrated. Now today we are going to tell you the story of this day.
Story of Ashada Shukla Devshayani Ekadashi- Dharmaraja Yudhishthira said "O Keshav! What is the name of Ashadh Shukla Ekadashi? What is the method of observing this fast and which deity is worshipped? Sri Krishna said that O Yudhishthira! At one time Naradji asked this question to Brahma. Then Brahma replied, O Narada, you have asked a very good question for the salvation of the living beings because the fast of Devshayani Ekadashi is the best among all the fasts. All the sins are destroyed by this fast and those who do not observe this fast are hellish. Lord Vishnu is pleased by observing this fast. The name of this Ekadashi is the Padma. It is also known as Devshayani Ekadashi, Vishnu-Shayani Ekadashi, Ashadhi Ekadashi and Harishayani Ekadashi.
There was a Chakravarti king named Mandhata, who was truthful. He used to take care of his country people like a son. All his subjects were full of wealth and happiness. There was never a famine in his kingdom. At one time there was no rain in that king's kingdom and there was a famine. The people became very sad due to the lack of food grains. Yagnadis was also stopped in the state due to non-availability of food grains. One day the people went to the king and said, "O king!" The whole people are calling out because rain is the cause of the whole world. There is a famine due to lack of rain and people are dying due to famine. That's why Rajan! Suggest some such solution that will relieve the suffering of the subjects. King Mandhata said that you people are right, the rain only produces food and you have become very unhappy with the rain. I understand your sufferings. Having said this, the king took some army and went towards the forest. He visited the ashram of many sages and finally reached the ashram of Angira Rishi, son of Brahma.
The king got down from his horse and bowed to the sage Angira. The sage blessed the king and asked him the reason for coming to the ashram after Kushalakshme. The king folded his hands and graciously said, "O God! There has been a famine in my state even after practising religion in every way. People are very unhappy with this. It is said in the scriptures that people suffer because of the influence of the sins of the king. When I rule in righteousness, how did there be a famine in my state? I could not find out the reason for this yet. Now I have come to you to retire this doubt. Please clear my doubts. Also, tell us a way to remove the suffering of the subjects. Hearing this, the sage started saying that, O Rajan! This golden age is the best of all ages. This includes all four phases to the religion, that is, the greatest advancement of religion in this era. People worship Brahma and only Brahmins have the right to read Vedas. Only Brahmins can have the right to do penance, but a Shudra is doing penance in your state. Due to this defect, there is no rain in your state. Therefore, if you want the good of the people, then kill that Shudra. On this, the king started saying that Maharaj, how can I kill that Shudra who is doing penance without any penance.
Tell me some other way to get rid of this defect. Then the sage started saying that, O Rajan! If you want to know other solutions then listen. Legislatively observe the Ekadashi named the Padma of the Shukla Paksha of Ashadha month. Due to the effect of fasting, there will be rain in your state and people will get happiness because this Ekadashi fast is going to give to all siddhis and will destroy all disturbances. Fast this Ekadashi with you people, servants and ministers. On hearing this word of the Muni, the king returned to his city and he duly observed Padma Ekadashi. Due to the effect of that fast, there was rain and the people got happiness. Therefore, all humans should observe fast for Ekadashi of this month. This fast is going to give liberation in this world and enjoyment. By reading and listening to this story, all the sins of human beings are eradicated.
