Air India and Vistara’s Aircraft Maintenance Operations to Merge, DGCA Approves Integration: The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has given the green light for Air India and Vistara to combine their aircraft line maintenance operations. This move is a step closer to the merger of the two airlines, both of which are part of the Tata Group.

In a statement released on Friday, August 9, Air India highlighted that this integration will streamline resources, boost operational efficiency, and cut down aircraft turnaround times, leading to improved on-time performance. The unified maintenance team will manage both wide-body and narrow-body aircraft, aiming to enhance schedule reliability.

Air India has been managing in-house line maintenance at 12 stations across India. The integration will allow for better tracking and troubleshooting of technical issues due to real-time record availability. Additionally, it will enable economies of scale and improve manpower allocation for aircraft maintenance, including for Air India Express, which has previously relied on Vistara's maintenance team.

Following the merger, announced in November 2022, Singapore Airlines will hold a 25.1% stake in Air India.

The merger and integration of maintenance operations mark a significant shift in the Indian aviation landscape. By combining their resources, Air India and Vistara aim to create a more cohesive and efficient maintenance infrastructure. This strategic move is expected to lead to cost savings, enhanced service quality, and better management of their diverse fleet, ultimately benefiting passengers with improved flight reliability and performance. As both airlines work towards finalizing their merger, these operational advancements underscore their commitment to offering superior service and operational excellence in the competitive aviation sector.
