The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has fined Air India Rs.10 lakh due to its failure to adhere to regulations concerning passenger facilities. Following inspections at Delhi, Kochi, and Bangalore airports, the regulator noted Air India's non-compliance with Civil Aviation Requirements (CAR).

After issuing a show-cause notice to Air India on November 3, the DGCA announced on Wednesday that the airline's response revealed continued non-compliance with CAR provisions. These violations include the failure to provide hotel accommodations for passengers affected by flight delays, inadequate training of some ground personnel as required, and failure to compensate international business class passengers seated in inoperative seats.

As a result of these infractions, the regulator has imposed a financial penalty of Rs.10 lakh on Air India.

Air India Express: According to reports, scores of cabin crew members of Air India Express have expressed concerns about the decision on room sharing during layovers, claiming that such a move poses various difficulties in getting uninterrupted rest before flight duty while the airline has said that room sharing is consistent with the market practice followed by many other carriers.

Besides, cabin crew members have expressed concerns about curtailment of service contracts of some members as well as about assessment process at the airline, said the report citing sources.

Currently, Air India Express and AIX Connect together have more than 5,500 employees and around 1,800 cabin crew members.
