New Delhi: Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan urged all eligible students between the ages of 15 and 18 to get the COVID-19 vaccine and to encourage others to do the same.
Pradhan took to Twitter to say, "Free immunisation for children aged 15 to 18 years has begun across the country under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji. I urge all eligible kids in school and college to get the immunisation and to encourage others to do so as well. You can protect yourself and others by doing so."
The Prime Minister declared on December 25 that the COVID-19 vaccination programme for the age group of 15-18 years will begin today, amid mounting worries about the highly transmissible Omicron strain of coronavirus. For this age group, only Bharat Biotech's indigenously produced shot 'Covaxin' would be used.
Additional doses of Covaxin will be delivered to the states for giving the vaccination to this population category, according to a note written by the Union health ministry to all states and Union territories.
