Visakhapatnam: Residents of Neredubanda of Ravikatham mandal staged a sit-in on Sunday demanding Aadhaar card. As part of the protest, children of tribals joined hands to salute the district collector and Integrated Tribal Development Authority (ITDA) project officer and asked villagers to issue Aadhaar cards. Despite having 18 children in the village, their names are not recorded in the government records.

The tribals approached Gadathuru panchayat of G Madugula mandal and Chimalpadu panchayat of Ravikamtham mandal for issue of Aadhaar cards and their birth certificates. But the authorities refused to respond despite their repeated pleas, the tribals alleged. K P Dora, a resident of Neredubanda village said, “There is no Anganwadi center or government hospital facility near our village.

Children are not able to attend any school due to lack of Aadhar card and birth certificate.” CPI(M) District Working Committee member K Govinda Rao demanded that Neredubanda village be recognized as a village and recorded in the government records so that villagers can take advantage of government schemes and children can enter schools and lead a normal life.
