New Delhi: Former Chief Justice and Rajya Sabha member Ranjan Gogoi called the allegations unfounded in which he was told that he got the BJP Rajya Sabha seat in lieu of many other decisions including Ramjanmabhoomi. In an interview to a private media channel, Gogai spoke openly on all the decisions made during the tenure of his chief justice, including Ram Mandir, Rafael. Gogoi said, "I thought that I would go to Rajya Sabha and do some structural work." Within a year of retirement, on being sent to the Rajya Sabha by Modi Government, Gogoi said, "I do not care about which party has sent me. I do not have any constituency, the whole country is a constituency for me."
On the Ram Janmabhoomi decision, Gogoi said that people see the Ram Janmabhoomi decision as the biggest success of the Modi government. These people are not able to distinguish between a judicial order and a political decision. He also said that the order of the court will be beneficial for one party and biased for the other. The moment you give the verdict, you also become the enemy of the judge. According to the information received, Ranjan Gogoi also spoke clearly on the controversy over the decision on Rafael. He said that it is easy to talk but when you sit in the chair of the Chief Justice, then there is a problem. He said that if my intentions are correct then how much criticism is there, which does not matter.
He said, "Rafael case was very easy. The question was about the purchase of ships. Will we adopt the same procedure for the purchase of the ship, which is adopted to build a building. I would say no. The parameters in the purchase of the aircraft will be stricter." Gogoi said on the charge of Rajya Sabha seat in return for the decision, "Give me some credit. Who will not negotiate decisions like Ayodhya, Rafael and Sabarimala? If it were a bargain, it would have been very big. Only one Rajya Sabha cannot be negotiated for this."
