The news of Board of Control for Cricket in India's mega pay-rise for Indian cricketers on Wednesday came along with a shocking news for India speedster Mohammed Shami's alleged extra-marital affairs, forcing the BCCI to drop his name from the grade-wise list of players. While the board's decision comes as expected, it has also been understood that Shami's name was present amongst other annual contract holders until Sunday, but as skipper Virat Kohli and head coach Ravi Shastri were made aware of the whole situation, a call from CoA asked BCCI to put Shami's contract on hold until further clarification on the matter. The new BCCI contracts saw a whopping raise for top-bracket cricketers from Rs 2 crores to Rs 7 crores while the likes of MS Dhoni, Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja found themselves in Grade A instead of A+. The same day, Shami’s wife Hasin Jahan released some WhatsApp and Facebook chats of her husband's conversation with different girls, alleging that he has had extra-marital affairs with multiple women.

An unnamed senior board official, said that the whole situation caught the BCCI in a dilemma of whether to take Shami's name off from the contract because of a personal reason or not, but in the end ethics played a big role in the final decision.

“BCCI is in a bit of dilemma because there is a question of ethics involved here. Anyone can say that it’s purely a personal issue and has nothing to do with his professional life. That argument can be taken”.
