Diesel become cheaper, Petrol remain unchanged…check rates inside

New Delhi: On Friday (March 8), State-run oil marketing companies left prices of petrol unchanged for the third consecutive day, while diesel prices fell up by 10-11 paise across major cities in the country. In the National capital Delhi, petrol price is stagnant at Rs 72.24 and diesel is priced at Rs 67.54 a litre as compared to Rs 67.64 on Thursday, according to data from Indian Oil Corporation website.

It is worth noting that retail fuel prices in Delhi are the cheapest among all metros and most state capitals due to lower taxes.In Kolkata, petrol is retailing at Rs 74.33  while diesel costs Rs 69.33 a litre, 10 paise dip from yesterday’s price. Citizens in Mumbai have to pay Rs 77.87 for a litre of petrol while diesel is sold at Rs 70.76 per litre. Petrol price in Chennai remained stable at Rs 75.02 per litre, while diesel prices dropped to Rs 71.38, an 11 paisa per litre less than Thursday’s price.

However, petrol in Noida costs Rs 71.75 per litre and Rs 72.37 in Gurugram, no variation in rates compared to yesterday’s price. Petrol and diesel prices were raised on Tuesday (5 March) with an increase of 7 paise in petrol prices while diesel was raised by 10-11 paise across major cities of the country. Since the starting of this year, the retail price of petrol went up by about Rs 4 a litre and that of diesel by about Rs 5 a litre.

On Friday, in the international oil market, crude prices dropped following European Central Bank (ECB) warned economic weakness would continue. International Brent crude oil futures were trading at USD 65.96 per barrel, down 34 cents, or 0.5 per cent, from their last close.
