New Delhi: On Tuesday (April 30), Retail petrol and diesel prices were increased across major cities of the country. After today’s rate revision, petrol became dearer by 5 paise a litre while diesel prices went up by 5 paise per litre. In Delhi, petrol prices rose to Rs 73.13 a litre as against Rs 73.08 on Monday while diesel price climbed to Rs 66.71 per litre as compared to Rs 66.66 on Thursday, as per data from Indian Oil Corporation website. To be noted that worthing mentioning here is that the retail fuel prices in Delhi are the cheapest among all metros and most state capitals due to lower taxes. On Monday, state-run oil marketing companies kept petrol prices static while diesel prices were increased by 5 paise across four major cities in the country.

Here it is to be noted that retail petrol price in Kolkata was hiked by 5 paise to Rs 75.15 from Rs 75.10 recorded on Monday. Diesel prices too have hiked by 5 paise from yesterday’s rate price of Rs 68.40 a litre. Similarly, in Chennai, petrol is retailing at Rs 75.90, 5 paise higher than Monday’s rate of Rs 75.85 per litre while diesel price is set at Rs 70.44, 5 paise more than yesterday's price of Rs 70.39 a litre. Citizens in Mumbai have to shell out Rs 78.70 for a litre of petrol after a 5 paise hike over Monday’s rate. A litre of diesel costs Rs 69.83, 5 paise costlier than yesterday’s rate of Rs 69.77.

It may be noted that the pump price of fuel in the country is dependent on the global crude prices and the rupee-US dollar exchange rate as India imports 80 per cent of its crude requirements. In the international oil market, crude prices fell on Tuesday amid expectations increasing output from the US and OPEC would counterbalance most of the deficit expected from US curbs on Iran. International Brent crude futures were at trading USD 71.75 per barrel, down 29 cents, or 0.4 per cent, from their last close.
