Digvijay Singh had been a Member of Parliament for five times in his 55-year life. Three times Lok Sabha (1998,1999,2009) and twice Rajya Sabha (1990, 2004). Not only that, Digvijay Singh was also a minister in Atal Bihari Vajpayee's cabinet between 1999-2004 during the NDA regime.
He was considered to be the closest to George Fernandes. That is why, at the time of the 15th Lok Sabha elections held in 2009, the party refused to give him a Lok Sabha ticket. Even after that Digvijay Singh did not give up and despite the JD(U) wave in Bihar, the Lok Sabha elections from Banka were contested by independents and won by overwhelming votes. He died of brain haemorrhage in London on June 24, 2010. He was mourned by several political heavyweights including Lalu Prasad Yadav.
