After the resignation of three Malayalam actresses along with the victim of abduction and sexual assault from Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA), the chargesheeted actor Dileep have quit the association on Thursday while stating that he will not return in the same until he will not be pardoned in the case.

Due to the re-appointment of accused actor Dileep in AMMA, Revathy Asha Kelunni, Padmapriya Janakiraman and A. Parvathy cut off from the organization in harmony along with the victim of the case. Further, they wrote to Edavela Babu, General Secretary(AMMA) and demanded an emergency executive meeting on July 13 or 14 to discuss his revoke of Dileep’s suspension.

Following this, the actor wrote to Edavela Babu that “I am happy that such a decision has been taken, but now that I am facing a case in which I have done nothing wrong, I do not wish to be active in any body till I come clean. I am deeply pained in hearing various criticism against AMMA in my name. I wish the newly elected committee of AMMA all the best,”. The letter was also posted on the domain.

Notably, the row is also started for the same on Women in Cinema Collective (WCC) where actresses posted the demand for the meeting and wrote: ““At this meeting, a very crucial decision was taken… Considering the gravity of the circumstances and the matter being sub judice, it is shocking that such an important matter was decided without listing it on the agenda or being discussed among all members prior to the meeting.” “AMMA had publicly pledged full support to the member who survived the assault but the decision taken for reinstating the expelled member who is now a chargesheeted suspect goes against the promise made to the survivor,”, the demand further reads.

The decision that was taken by superstar Mohanlal, newly elected head of AMMA was also slammed by Kerala State Women’s Commission and also criticized by various dignitaries. J. Mercykutty, Kerala Fisheries Minister expressed that: ““It should not be forgotten that actors are icons and they should be perfect role models, but this decision that they took is baffling.”
