Agartala (Tripura) [India], Jul 9 (NT): The relatives of Indian gymnast Dipa Karmakar, who clinched gold medal in the tomb event at the FIG Artistic Gymnastics WC Challenge Cup on Sunday, expressed  their joy  over the her achievements.

Dipa's father Dulal Karmakar who is a weightlifting coach happily stated that this was the first her competition after surgery.

He got this information from Dipa's first coach Soma Nandi. She informed that Dipa has received gold in the vaulting table to family. Dipa's father also got a few calls from outside and he is very happy because after Rio Dipa could not take part in any competition.

Meanwhile, Dipa's mother Gouri Karmakar, who is a housewife, said, she is feeling happy because her daughter achieved gold even after a long gap.

 Worth mention here the 24-year-old Dipa, who had acquired the fourth spot in the jump event of the 2016 Rio Olympics, scored 14.150 to grab the top position in the tournament.

 It is noted that because of an Anterior Cruciate Ligament injury the gymnast was out of action after her striking performance in Rio Olympics.

Dipa's name has been included in the 10-member Indian gymnastics team for the Asian Games, which are slated to begin from 18 August.

Taking to micro blogging website Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Dipa for her gold achievement, "India is proud of @DipaKarmakar! Congratulations to her on winning a well-deserved Gold in the vault event at the FIG World Challenge Cup in Mersin, Turkey. This win is a prime example of her tenacity and never-say-die attitude," PM Modi tweeed  (NT)
