Director Hansal Mehta has revealed that he had planned to approach superstar Sridevi for a film. However, before he could approach the late superstar, she passed away. Mehta also revealed details about the movie saying it was a movie about a woman who discovers her womanhood in her late 50s. He tweeted about the same after Sridevi’s demise.

Mehta told that the film is based on a beautiful Chinese story from a novella.

“It is a beautiful story, I have got the rights for it. It is from a book, a novella... It is a Chinese story. I felt it would be wonderful to do it with Sridevi. I had thought of narrating the idea to her, but she passed away. It was shocking,” said Mehta.

The critically acclaimed director, known for films like Shahid and Aligarh, added that the movie would have been different from the kind of film he makes.

“It was a departure from the kind of films I was making. It is a tale about love, about how in the late 50s you are discovering womanhood...Motherhood and marriage, without either being a wife or a mother. She (the protagonist) experiences all these emotions supposedly... All these years she has been single,” added Mehta.

Mehta will still be making the film after he finds a perfect fit for the character that Sridevi would have played. He said that he will dedicate the film to the late actor. He recounted his meeting with Sridevi at the preview screening of his film ‘Dil Pe Mat Le Yaar’. He added that she was a great actor and an inspiration to many actors.

Sridevi died of accidental drowning in Dubai on February 24.
