New Delhi: Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Thursday attacked the Central government over the hike in petrol and diesel prices and alleged that the people of the country were being mocked. "The Central Government is having disgusting fun with our people," he tweeted about petrol and diesel prices. Petrol and diesel prices were hiked by 35 paise per litre on Thursday, taking fuel prices across the country to record levels.

The same fuel prices have been hiked for the second consecutive day. According to the price notification of government retailers, petrol prices in Delhi rose to a record Rs 106.54 per litre and Mumbai at Rs 112.44 per litre. In Mumbai, diesel is now available at Rs 103.26 per litre while in Delhi it is priced at Rs 95.27 per litre.

Earlier, former Congress President Rahul Gandhi and party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra hit out at the Narendra Modi government over the hike in petrol and diesel prices, saying the prices of petroleum products have been increased in such a way that it is now difficult for air slippers and middle-class people to travel on the road. Rahul Gandhi had shared a news item and tweeted, "This is a very serious issue - the simple needs of the people that come before elections and vote politics, which are not being met today. I am with the people who are being cheated for the benefit of Modi friends and will continue to raise their voice."
