Tirunelveli, According to Collector M. Karunakaran, that the district administration, in association with Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital (TVMCH) Blood Bank, has planned to organise more than 500 blood donation camps to get a minimum of 20,000 units of blood from donors during this fiscal.

On Tuesday, a blood donation awareness human chain organised on TVMCH premises here in connection with ‘World Blood Donation Day’ in which Dr. Karunakaran participated and said, "the TVMCH Blood Bank organised 154 blood donation camps during the last fiscal to collect 11,450 units of blood. The blood received from the donors was being used to save the lives of accident victims, dengue patients, patients who underwent major surgical procedures and women after delivery."

He added, “Since donating just 350 ml of the 5 or 6 litres of blood in the body will never affect the donors’ health, every healthy man and woman can donate blood to save the lives of poor patients in need of blood or blood components. It has been, in fact, scientifically proved that blood donation diminishes the probabilities of getting affected by cardiac ailments”.

Along with Dr. Karunakaran more than 300 persons, including medicos, house surgeons, students of nursing college and volunteers, participated in the human chain
