KOLKATA: Justice Harish Tandon's division bench of the Calcutta High Court recused itself from hearing two significant cases related to the West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) recruitment scam on Thursday.

The first case in this matter concerns the deployment of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) officers to protect the WBSSC office from tampering with evidence. A single-judge bench led by Justice Avijit Gangopadhyay issued an order relating to the deployment of CRPF forces at the WBSSC office around midnight on Wednesday.

The West Bengal government addressed Justice Tandon's division bench on Thursday morning, requesting a stay on the single-judge bench ruling on this count. However, the bench of Justice Tandon declined to hear the case.

At the same time, former state education minister and Trinamool Congress secretary general Partha Chatterjee approached the division bench on Thursday morning, seeking a stay on the order of Justice Gangopadhyay's single-judge bench ordering Partha Chatterjee to face CBI interrogation in connection with the scam.

Both cases have now been referred back to Calcutta High Court Chief Justice Prakash Srivastava, who will decide on an alternative division bench to which the cases can be referred, according to protocol.
