Madhya Pradesh Western Region Power Distribution Company supplied nearly 10 crore units of power in all 15 districts, including Indore, in the Malwa-Nimar region. West Discom managing director Amit Tomar said that the demand is increasing steadily in the month of November. "The maximum consumption was recorded at 5,700 MW on Friday. In the last twenty-four hours (Dhanteras) 10 crore units of electricity was supplied, which is the highest supply in a single day," he added.
Tomar said that consumption has increased in markets, homes, shopping malls during Diwali festivities. Around 1.30 crore units of electricity was supplied in the Indore district during the last 24 hours. During this period, more than one crore units of electricity were also supplied to Ujjain and Dhar districts.
Similarly. 93 lakh units were supplied to Dewas, 90 lakh to Khargone, 80 lakh to Ratlam. 30 to 60 lakh units of electricity were supplied to other districts. Rabi crops have been sown in lakhs of hectares in Malwa and Nimar. The demand for electricity is at a record level with around 12 lakh pumps being used for irrigation purposes. About 4.5 crore units of electricity are being supplied daily for irrigation only.
