Djokovic is looking to challenge for the 16th Grand Slam title of his career in the second round. He will take on Denis Kudla of the United States, who defeated Malik Jaziri of Tunisia 6-4, 6-1, 6-3. Fourth-seeded South Africa's Kevin Anderson didn't sweat much during the 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 victory against French veteran Pierre-Hue Herbert.
He will take on Yanko Tipsarevic of Serbia in the next round. At one time, the world's eighth-ranked player, Tipsarevic had to contend for five sets against Japan's Y Nishioka. The Serbian player however finally managed to record a 6-4, 6-7, 6-2, 5-7, 6-2 win.

Three-time Grand Slam winner and 22nd-seeded Stan Wawrinka of Switzerland also beat Belgium's Ruben Bemelmans 6-3, 6-2, 6-2 in the first round. Wawrinka will now face Reiel Oeplaka of the United States, who showed his way out of Germany's Cedric Marcel Stebe 6-3, 7-6, 6-1.
In other matches, Spain's Feliciano Lopez defeated Marcos Giron of the United States 6-4, 6-2, 6-4, but Germany's Mischa Zverev was defeated by Steve Darcis of Belgium 6-2, 6-4, 6-4. Spain's 23rd-seeded Roberto Bautista Agut also recorded an easy victory against Peter Gojovic of Germany 6-3, 6-2, 6-3.
