CHENNAI: The government DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance is expected to win a resounding victory in Tamil Nadu's municipal elections which held on February 19. Till 1 p.m. on Tuesday, the DMK had won 213 municipal corporation wards, 960 municipality member positions, and 3,272 town panchayat posts across the state.

Only 38 seats in Municipal Corporation wards, 262 Municipality ward member posts, and 915 town panchayat ward seats were won by the AIADMK.

In Western Tamil Nadu, which is considered an AIADMK stronghold, the ruling DMK has made gains. The DMK has already been elected to six member positions in the Coimbatore municipal corporation and 18 ward seats in the Erode corporation. In the Greater Chennai Corporation, the DMK candidates have already won 36 seats.

In 22 corporate wards, 64 municipality wards, and 225 Town panchayat seats, the Congress has already won. So far, BJP candidates have gained seats in one corporation, 24 municipal wards, and 102 town panchayats.
