Chennai: MPs of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), the ruling party in Tamil Nadu, have extended a helping hand to Sri Lanka, which is reeling under an economic crisis. DMK MPs have announced to give one month's salary to Sri Lanka. However, earlier also CM MK Stalin had appealed to the people of Tamil Nadu for financial assistance. At the moment, the situation in Sri Lanka is very bad. The people there are also struggling for basic things like food and electricity.

Media reports quoted the DMK as saying that amid Sri Lanka's economic crisis, the DMK MPs will donate their one month's salary to the CM Fund. In Sri Lanka, the protests of the general public against the Government continue. In the neighbouring country, the government is not able to buy enough fuel and gas. Many people have left the country. A resolution has been passed in the Tamil Nadu Assembly, seeking permission to send rice and essential medicines as help to Sri Lanka. In response, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar had said that the Tamil Nadu government's cooperation could complement the help being extended by the government of India.
