An eye surgeon working with San Diego Zoo veterinarians successfully removed a cataract from the left eye of a 3-year-old gorilla named Leslie on 10 December 2019. The rest of the eye appeared in health, which would give Leslie an extraordinary vision for the rest of her life. In this process, a new artificial lens has been inserted by removing Leslie's eye lens, so that he can see clearly the rest of his life. But a cataract accumulates behind the colored part of the eye like a cloud in a clear lens, known as the iris. At the same time it is also being said that cataracts usually develop over time, as part of the normal aging process. However, they can also be caused by eye trauma. While playing with the young gorilla, a cataract may have occurred due to injury.
