New Delhi: Local people are angry over the ban on the sale of dog and its meat in Nagaland. People say that they have been eating dog meat for many years, banning food and drink is absolutely wrong. At the same time, some organizations have been voicing the cruelty of dogs for meat for quite some time. Let me tell you that dog meat is sold in Nagaland the most in the country. In addition, dog meat is eaten in Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and some hilly areas of West Bengal. Dimapur, situated on the borders of Nagaland and Assam, is the largest market for dog meat. The same market connects the strings of the smuggling of dogs in entire northeastern regions.

Experts say that stolen dogs are smuggled from different areas of the country. Dogs are taken to the butcher mines of Dimapur and from here the meat of dogs comes for sale in the market. It is said that the work of bringing dogs to Dimapur market is entrusted to many small gangs. These gangs take dogs from Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur to Dimapur market in Nagaland. The price of catching dogs is given from 50 to 150 rupees. Dogs are sold for up to one thousand rupees in Dimapur market. Most dog meat is sold on festivals. During this time, the price of meat gets up to 4 thousand rupees. Some people even say that the dog catchers often catch pet dogs and lock them in sacks in Dimapur market.

From here, the meat of dogs then reaches small shops and many hotels for sale. Usually small shopkeepers dry and sell dog meat. Its sales are in the range of 200 to 250 rupees per kg. Even in Nagaland hotels and eateries, dog meat is eaten passionately with rice. According to Human Society International, an organization that voiced vandalism on dogs, 30 to 40 thousand dogs are trafficked in Nagaland every year.
