Recently, actor Robert De Niro claimed that the 'evil' in his Killers of the Flower Moon role is similar to that of former US President Donald Trump. The Cannes Film Festival was where he was. On Saturday, Killers of the Flower Moon made their festival debut to rousing acclaim.

The actor takes on the role of Hale, a famous landowner on the Osage Indian Reservation who, in the 1800s, established trust with the Osage people before planning a string of homicides to seize control of their oil-rich grounds. De Niro compared the treachery to Trump's policies at a press conference for the movie on Sunday at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, where he was accompanied by Scorsese, Leonardo DiCaprio, Lily Gladstone, and the senior chief of the Osage Nation, Geoffrey Standing Bear.

"I don't understand a lot about him," De Niro, long a vocal Trump critic, said of his character. "But people do things. He has to be charming, he has to win people over. Part of him is sincere. It's just the other part where he's betraying [the Osage community]. There's a feeling of entitlement. I guess you could say we became a lot more aware of it after George Floyd, with systemic racism. And so that's what it is. And lo and behold, what happened there that we never knew of while we were there was the Black Wall Street massacre while we were shooting."

He continued, "So it's the banality of evil. It's the thing that we have to watch out for. And we see it today, of course, with, we all know who I'm going to talk about, but I won't say the name. Because that guy is stupid. Imagine if you're smart. Even Hale was smart in many ways. And so, it's something that is systemic, and that's the scary part about it."

The best-selling novel of the same name, on which the movie is based. It is about a string of killings that occur in 1920s Oklahoma and target the rich Osage Nation because of their oil wealth. Along with Brendan Fraser and John Lithgow, it also stars Lily Gladstone, Jesse Plemons, and Leonardo DiCaprio.

After George Floyd with institutional racism, that is what happened there; what we didn't know about the Black Street Massacre, it's the banality of evil, Robert De Niro continued. These are the things we need to be on the lookout for. We observe that today, and everyone is aware of the individual I will mention — but that man is foolish. Hale was wise in many ways, but the problem is structural. Regarding Trump, there are those who believe he is capable of performing well. "Imagine how insane that is," he continued, according to source.

Robert De Niro and Leonardo assume the roles of an uncle and a nephew in Killers Of The Flower Moon. After 30 years, it is their first on-screen reunion. The 1993 movie This Boy's Life was their prior collaboration. The character of Leonardo marries an Indigenous lady, Lily, who experiences severe prejudice from the rest of the community. Jesse works for the FBI.

In October 2023, the movie will be seen for the first time in US theaters. Later this year, it will be streamed on Apple TV+. It was directed by Martin Scorsese.
