Mumbai: Amid the corona epidemic, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) today informed the Bombay High Court on January 19 that corona conditions in the city and surrounding areas are under control as the number of infected cases has come down from about 20,000 within 10 days to 7,000 on Tuesday, so there is no need to panic. State that the civic body was replying to a PIL filed during the second wave of corona in which the petitioner alleged improper management of corona treatment in Maharashtra.

The court has now directed the state government to update the status of corona across the state by January 25. A bench of Chief Justice Dipankar Dutta and Justice Makarand Karnik heard the PIL filed by Sneha Marjadi. The bench informed senior advocate Anil Sakhare appearing for the BMC that a note was prepared on the number of infected cases in the city to update it on corona preparedness after the court's January 10 directive.

Sakhare quoted the note as saying that adequate measures have been taken in respect of vaccination, bed and ambulance management, supply of oxygen etc. Referring to the note, Sakhare said, "Though the number of positive cases was increasing between January 6 and 9, thereafter gradually declined to 7000 infected cases on January 18. "
