The city of Pune has been in the spotlight for quite some time due to tough campaigns against the compulsion of wearing helmets while driving two-wheelers. Now the issue, in fact, has come to the fore with many politicians, businessmen and other prominent people in the city who have joined hands to protest against wearing helmets while driving two-wheelers. Similarly, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis asked on Tuesday that the Pune police use CCTV to send challans, or tickets to people riding without helmets and then at their homes. For your information, Fadnavis said people should not bother on the streets for riding with helmets. Apparently, he was met by some Pune MLAs, forcing him to issue a statement. Fadnavis, however, stressed that the helmet is mandatory when riding two-wheelers and for the safety of the people.

 

Continuing his statement, he further said, "But it is not acceptable that, in the name of compulsion, two-wheeler riders should wait on the road. Helmet rules need to be implemented while creating a balance. Police are levying fines on traffic offenders and two-wheeler riders who do not use helmets using CCTV networks. The Pune Police can also use technology and impose fines on traffic violators and passengers without helmets."
