Don’t want coalition govt with Congress: JD(S) MLA Gowri Shankar

Tumkuru: Congress-Janata Dal (Secular) alliance in Karnataka abound, JD(S) MLA from Tumkur Rural Gowri Shankar has claimes that the JD(S) cadres did not want a coalition government with the Congress.

Addressing a party workers’ meet in Tumkuru, MLA further claimed that JD(S) chief HD Deve Gowda would have won from Tumkur seat in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls had the party not been in alliance with the Congress.

Shankar also said that he was making the statement against the JD(S)-Congress tie-up at the risk of getting expelled from the party.  He said, “If there was no coalition government in the state, HD Deve Gowda would have won with a margin of more than two lakh votes. Even if HD Kumaraswamy scolds me or HD Deve Gowda throws me out of the party, I'll still say we don't want this coalition government.”

According to the report of Deccan Herald reported, Gowri Shankar added that since the two parties gave contradictory statements, there was no meaning to the alliance.

In recently concluded Lok Sabha elections, Former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda had to face defeat from Tumkur at the hands of Bharatiya Janata Party's GS Basavaraj, who won by a margin of 13,339 votes.  The Congress-JD(S) alliance faced a complete rout by the BJP as the saffron party posted a victory in 25 out of 28 seats in the state. On the other hand, the Congress and the JD(S) managed to win one Lok Sabha seat each.
