Made-in-India passenger planes may start commercial use soon. Public sector Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. (HAL) has tested Dornier aircraft of 19 seats for the job is successfully completed, which opened the way for commercial flights of these aircraft.

Officials say Hindustan Aeronautics can get the necessary certification of Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) this week. After this Dornier planes can be used for business purposes.

HAL has been manufacturing the 19-seat Dornier 228 aircraft for defense forces and European markets under license from Swiss technology company RUAG. An official of the company said that HAL has conducted a test flight of Dornier in Kanpur for use in commercial flight services, which has been successful.

A senior official of DGCA said that HAL can get formal approval till December 28 by completing the certification process. The company's official said that the regulator has already given the aircraft a flying license. Flight test of aircraft was monitored by the DGCA.

Commercial flights of Dornier 228 will encourage the government's Make in India program. So far, domestic airlines purchase aircraft of all sizes and weights from abroad.

Apart from this, it is believed that the government's ambitious flyover of the HAL-manufactured aircraft will also encourage the common civilian (flight) scheme of the country. This plan is for the deprived or low-lying areas of the aircraft at a reasonable cost.

It was asked whether HAL how will ensure an adequate supply of Dornier planes after the order, the official said that the company has already started a specific assembly line in Kanpur.

The official said, "Everything will depend on the orders from the airlines. We are considering to wait and watch.'' Earlier this month, said an official of the Ministry of Civil Aviation that the government manufactures aircraft for civilian use and grow rapidly in this direction.
