United States: Dozens of female inmates in a US prison were raped, assaulted and harassed during a "night of terror" when a corrections officer allegedly sold keys to unlock their cells. Gave. At least 28 women are said to have been terrorized during the ordeal on October 23, 2021, and several lawsuits were filed as a result.

Eight women in one of the lawsuits filed this week allege that corrections officer David Lowe, 29, charged male prisoners US$1,000 (AUD$1430) to the female housing pod at the Clark County Jail in Jefferson, Indiana, for several hours.

According to the New York Post, at least two of the eight women suing claimed they were raped, while others claim they were groped, assaulted and threatened.

According to the trial, Lowe gave the keys to male prisoners who had bribed him. The prisoners, who covered their heads with towels to protect their identities, then threatened to do more harm if the women called for help.

Men repeatedly threatened women with sexual abuse. Men in particular were shouting, 'Where's Pee-Y?' and 'I haven't had a P-Y in two years!'" the court papers said.

"During the hour-long attack, no prison officer came to the women's aid, and some were left with significant bodily injuries, including bleeding, vaginal tears, and genital herpes."

According to attorney William McCall, one of the women became pregnant as a result of the rape that night and had a miscarriage while out of custody.

Corrections officers reportedly locked up the women for 72 hours, confiscating personal property such as pillows, blankets and personal hygiene items.

Amazingly, despite the fact that surveillance cameras were stationed at those locations that showed male detainees accessing female pods, and despite the fact that the incident involved several male detainees and dozens of victims over an extended period of time. was included," the lawsuit alleges.

The civil suit names the Clark County Sheriff and other corrections officers because they "failed to properly staff the prison, train prison officers, and supervise prison officers to ensure adequate security at the prison."

According to a separate lawsuit filed by 20 women last month, "the men threatened, assaulted and raped the women over the course of several hours."

"Using a key provided by corrections officer David Lowe, male prisoners gained access to female pods." Women prisoners suffered horrific physical and psychological injuries as a direct and immediate consequence of the defendant's actions."

Lowe, who has since been fired, has been charged with criminal charges in relation to the incident and is awaiting trial on charges of prisoner trafficking, aid evasion and official misconduct.
