Maharashtra Declares Local Holiday for Dr. Ambedkar's Mahaparinirvan Diwas; National Commemoration at Prerna Sthal - In honor of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s death anniversary, Maharashtra has announced a local holiday for December 6, 2024. This day marks the observance of Mahaparinirvan Diwas, a day to reflect on Dr. Ambedkar's lasting impact on Indian society. He passed away on December 6, 1956, in Delhi, and his legacy continues to inspire millions.
The Maharashtra government issued an official notification stating that the local holiday applies to state and semi-government offices in Mumbai and its suburbs. The holiday is in line with Government Decision No. P and S. Number P-13/II/B, dated November 5, 1958.
On the national front, the 69th death anniversary of Dr. Ambedkar will be commemorated by the Dr. Ambedkar Foundation (DAF) under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. The ceremony will take place at Prerna Sthal in the Parliament House Complex, New Delhi, on December 6, 2024.
The commemoration will begin with floral tributes from high-ranking dignitaries, including Vice President Shri Jagdeep Dhankar, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, Lok Sabha Speaker Shri Om Birla, and Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha Shri Harivansh. Parliamentarians and other notable figures will join the VIP session in the morning.
Following the official ceremony, the event will be open to the public, allowing individuals to pay their respects to Dr. Ambedkar at Prerna Sthal. Public entry will be available from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM through Gate number 1, located near the Parliament Library at Pandit Pant Marg, New Delhi. No pass or invitation is required for entry at this gate for the occasion.
