Hair Transplant is one of the most reliable procedures to resolve hair loss and scalp baldness which increasing numbers of people are opting for. On similar lines, people need to understand that this procedure takes a single or multiple sittings to complete but the hair growth after the procedure takes some months.

Also, patients are taken aback to see hair fall immediately after the transplant procedure. But Dr G K Sharma of QHT Regrow Clinic, Haridwar is one of India’s leading hair transplant experts clarifies, ‘Many patients have called me a couple of days after the procedure worriedly regarding hair fall. I wish to assure them it is perfectly normal as the body is recovering from the procedure and the new implanted hair follicles are in place, it is just the hair shaft that is shedding.’

The hair shaft is an opening on the scalp through which the hair grows. The shedding of the hair shaft is body’s response to the hair transplant procedure. Once the old shaft is discarded, the new shaft will take its place and the implanted hair follicles will grow in a much better way.

He elaborates on body’s reaction to the procedure as trauma and hence prepares itself for healing. During the procedure, hair follicles are separated from the blood supply and then reimplanted into the scalp. Also, the body considers the new incisions made in the recipient area are considered as injuries. The hair move into the resting phase during which shedding occurs. This resting and shedding phase can last up to 12 weeks.

He advises the patients to be very careful during this period as hair grow slowly and take anywhere between four months to a year to fully grow. During this period, the patients should follow the recommended post procedure guidelines to experience the desired hair growth.

Dr G K Sharma offers a solution to patients who experience excessive hair shedding after their procedure. He recommends Finasteride to males as it decreases the dihydrotestosterone in the scalp which prevents hair loss. The Finasteride medicine is recommended only to male patients. Minoxidil is yet another medication that helps to prevent hair loss and also promote speedy hair growth.

Also, patients can also ask for suitable advice to Dr G K Sharma or his team of qualified and experienced doctors at the QHT Regrow Clinic, Haridwar. As mentioned earlier, hair shedding after the transplant procedure is normal and patients can easily manage this condition for a few weeks as they seek to regain their earlier dense hair growth.
