New Delhi: Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan on Monday introduced 'Pneumosil', the country's first pneumococcal conjugate vaccine developed by the Serum Institute of India (SII) in partnership with partners like Melinda Gates Foundation. The Ministry of Health said in a statement that Harsh Vardhan gave Serum Institute of India Private Limited (SIIPL) the world's largest vaccine producer in terms of number of vaccines and its contribution to India's economy, saying that its vaccines were used 170 Is done in countries.

He said that every third child in the world is vaccinated by giving a vaccine prepared by it. The minister also said that SIIPL developed the first indigenous pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV) during the lockdown implemented to prevent the spread of the corona virus and licensed it from the government.

He said that this is in line with PM Narendra Modi's vision of self-reliant India. According to the statement, he said that, the first indigenous pneumococcal conjugate vaccine of the Serum Institute would be available in the market at a cheaper price in single doses and multi-doses under the brand name Pneumosil.
