New Delhi: Dr. S. Jaishankar, the minister for external affairs, visited Rafael Grossi, the IAEA's director general, on Tuesday in Vienna. Both parties engaged in discussion during the meeting about a variety of global concerns.

"Pleased to meet IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi this morning in Vienna. discussed the Indo-Pacific, our G20 presidency, the global energy scenario, Ukraine, and the JCPOA", EAM Dr. S Jaishankar tweeted.

As per a statement from the Ministry of External Affairs, the high-level discussions between the two countries also centred on strengthening New Delhi's cooperation with the IAEA in the fight against climate change.

It is important to highlight that nuclear power significantly reduces greenhouse gas emissions. Nuclear power has decreased the equivalent of about 70 gigatonnes of carbon dioxide emissions over the past 50 years while providing the majority of clean energy in a number of nations through the production of low-carbon hydrogen. More importantly, nuclear energy can aid in decarbonizing difficult-to-abate sectors like transportation and industry, which is one of the largest climate concerns facing the world today. Additionally, it would be crucial for 2050's carbon neutrality.

Both parties discussed strengthening connections between New Delhi and the IAEA in medical care and other nuclear uses for social benefits during the meeting. The IAEA has consistently worked to aid its Member States in their efforts to combat cancer, heart disease, hunger, and other ailments by utilising nuclear and nuclear-related technologies.

The IAEA Director General remarked of his visit with Dr. S. Jaishankar, "India is a vital IAEA partner and supports our mission. Excellent discussion today on strategic themes of shared concern with Foreign Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar. Looking forward to India's meaningful participation in the G20's efforts to address global challenges.
