DRDO successfully test-fires new-generation Akash surface-to-air missile

Baleshwar: India on Wednesday successfully test-fired a new version of the Akash missile (Akash-NG) off the Odisha coast. Official sources said that the missile, equipped with a variety of weaponsystems such as multipurpose radars, commands, controls and communication systems and launchers, was test fired from the ground platform at around 12:45 pm.

The Hyderabad-based Defence Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL) has developed the missile system in collaboration with labs of Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO). Equipped with ground-to-air missile capability, the missile was tested from the Integrated Test Range (ITR). Sources said that during the test, the missile displayed a wonderful display of capability to target fast and sensitive air targets.

Sources said that based on the data received from the flight of the missile during the test, all the weapon systems have been confirmed to be successful, unflawed. After coming into service, the Akash-NG weapon system will prove to be very important for the Indian Air Force and will increase its capacity manifold.
