Driverless cars have taken entry in New York City. Driverless cars have been driven behind the huge Brooklyn Navy yard gates off city streets with cars, bikes and pedestrians. Driverless cars travelled around a loop on Wednesday, which is just over 1 mile in the yard, spread over 300 acres, a privately operated manufacturing and technology hub.

For your information, these cars will run 7 days a week and then take off to the passengers. There is no charge for a ride. On a recent test run, Greg Joborsky, a systems engineer at Optimus, pressed the green button. The car started and then intensified. This car is programmed to go no more than 15 mph and follow all traffic rules. The cars stop at a stop sign. Autonomous vehicles have been haroldd as the next revolution in transportation, promising to transfer people and goods more efficiently than cars dependent on drivers. According to Samuel I Schwartz, consultant of transport and author of 'No One at the Wheel', testing of autonomous vehicles is underway by more than a dozen institutions across the country. He said almost all of these are self-driving cars that are confined to enclosed areas, though some have been run on a limited basis on public roads.

It may take a long time for autonomous vehicles in New York City to be allowed to ply on public roads. The cars in the Navy Yard have been operated by Optimus Ride, a startup company founded in 2015 by 5 graduates and researchers from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
