Kolkata: Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister of West Bengal, claimed on Friday that Droupadi Murmu's chances of getting the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) presidential nomination have improved as because of the development in Maharashtra.

"Now that Maharashtra has undergone changes, we know that Droupadi Murmu's chances are greater.  We will go by what opposition parties say,"  Mamata Banerjee said. Banerjee further said that the opposition could have considered her name if the Bharatiya Janata party had discussed it with them before announcing it. "Before announcing their candidate for the presidential elections, the BJP didn't consult with us. They ought to have followed our advice, and then we may have thought, "she said.

An uprising within the Shiv Sena, led by Shinde, who remained in Guwahati and had the support of other MLAs, was the cause of the political crisis in Maharashtra. Wednesday saw Uddhav Thackeray's resignation.

Uddhav Thackeray resigned on Wednesday. Maharashtra's political crisis was created by a revolt in Shiv Sena led by Eknath Shinde who stayed in Guwahati with other MLAs supporting him. 
On Thursday night, Eknath Shinde took the oath of office as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra. Shinde was the leader of a rebellion against the Shiv Sena that caused the 31-month-old Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government to fall.
