NEW DELHI: On Thursday, shortly after arriving in the capital, Droupadi Murmu, the presidential candidate for the National Democratic Alliance, met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

PM Modi said, all facets of Indian society have praised her candidacy for the post of President. Modi tipped to be the first proposer when Murmusubmits her nomination papers on Friday. Many prominent BJP members, including ministers for the Union and officials from other parties who support her candidacy, are also expected to be among the proposers.

Modi wrote in a tweet, "Met Droupadi Murmu Ji. All facets of Indian society have praised her nomination for the presidency. Her vision for India's growth and awareness of local issues are excellent. She will also speak with several top leaders before starting a national push to get support from various political parties.

She will become India's first tribal president if elected, which has a good chance considering that Murmu (64) has the support of the majority of electors. Former Union minister Yashwant Sinha is the joint candidate of the opposition for the seat.
