Dubai UAE: When he broke Novak Djokovic's unbeaten start to the season at the Dubai Tennis Championships on Friday, Daniil Medvedev moved to within one victory of winning his third consecutive tour-level championship.
Medvedev was locked in from ball one in the fourteenth installment of their rivalry, winning 6-4, 6-4 to extend his winning streak to 13 games. To deflect Djokovic's ball-striking, the third seed positioned himself far behind the baseline.

In comparison to Djokovic's 38 unforced errors, Medvedev made just 12. He also moved quickly across the court, chasing down several drop drops, and eventually won the match after 1 hour and 35 minutes.

"You simply have to play your best when playing Novak. He has 22 Grand Slams, so even if you play your best, it will be difficult, and there is a chance you won't win, so I kind of hope he doesn't play his best on the day "said Medvedev.
I was able to outperform him today by playing at a better level. I didn't encounter a single break point in the second set, although there were a lot of 30/30 games. Nonetheless, I was able to maintain my composure, and I am delighted to compete tomorrow " he said.

In February, the 27-year-old won titles at the tour level in Rotterdam and Doha. When he takes on Andrey Rublev in the final on Saturday, he will look to win his 18th tour-level championship and 17th on hard courts.
In his sixth attempt, Rublev defeated Alexander Zverev for the first time, winning 6-3, 7-6(9), moving him closer to successfully defending his Dubai Tennis Championships title.

When he defeated Djokovic in the 2021 US Open final, Medvedev also prevented the Serbian from being the first person to win the Grand Slam since Rod Laver in 1969. Yet the top seed has beaten Medvedev four times in a row coming into the match at the ATP 500 in Dubai.
