NEW DELHI: Paula Badosa, a former world No. 2, said on Thursday that she would not be competing in this year's French Open because of a stress fracture in her spine that she suffered at the Italian Open last week.

Badosa joined Jennifer Brady, Patricia Maria Tig, and Ajla Tomljanovic in the women's main draw's outfield, therefore her absence will let a fourth fortunate loser to participate. "Just when everything started to look good again, I got some awful news right before the Grand Slam. I sustained a stress fracture in my spine at the event in Rome, the Spaniard claimed in a statement.  "After such a challenging start to the season with injuries, it has been very terrible news. For a few weeks, this will prevent me from competing, she continued.

After sustaining an abductor injury during her gruelling Adelaide International 2 quarterfinal match against Beatriz Haddad Maia, the 25-year-old also missed the Australian Open in January.

The men's and women's singles draws for the French Open will take place on Thursday, with play in the main event beginning on Sunday.
