Due to an outbreak of diarrhoea, seven died and over 100 were taken ill in Seoni

Ghansaur, Seon: In the last three days, due to an outbreak of diarrhoea and intense heat wave, seven people have died and nearly hundred have taken ill in the areas of Atariya, Chitapar, Jam, Pahadi, Bineki, Ghansaur and Bandra villages of the district.

"There was a sudden spurt in the complaints of diarrhoea since May 21, following rain and the subsequent heat. Some of the sick, exhibiting symptoms like vomiting apart from diarrhoea, died even before reaching the hospital", said, Seoni chief medical and health officer, Dr AK Srivastava.

To control the situation, team of doctors from Jabalpur and Seoni district hospital has reached Ghansaur where 74 people have been discharged so far, while 36 others were undergoing treatment.

Dr Srivastava said, “The medical team is taking samples of the water from the resources where the villagers collect water for household use”.

Over 100 people were undergoing treatment.

The dead were identified as Moga Bai, 70, of village Chitapar, Saroj Rani, 65, of village Ghansaur, Ramesh Lal, 45, of village Saliwada, Monu Lal, 60 of village Chitapar, Tilok Lal, 55, of village Agariya, Girni, 65, of village Jam and Indu Agariya, 56.

According to Local (Laknadaun) MLA Yogendra Singh, “Severe heat wave, coupled with sporadic rainfall in the last two days has made the atmosphere humid and this could be a reason behind the outbreak of the disease”.

He also announced that, an aid of Rs 5,000 will be given to the relatives of each dead.
