Actors Prithviraj and Dulquer Salman participated in the car race on the Kottayam-Kochi route. The investigation was announced after one of his videos went viral on social media. The video was recorded by two youths who chased the actors on their bikes. The exact date of 'race' is not known. The Department of Motor Vehicles said that during the investigation it was ordered to find out whether the actors were involved in driving the rash. The cars involved in the incident were Porsche and Lamborghini models. Although the stars are yet to respond to the video, police officials say they do not currently have any evidence to suggest that the car was indeed overspeed.
“We have started an investigation to find out whether the actor was involved in rash driving or not. The MVD's Automatic Enforcement Wing (AEW) has been instructed to verify the motion detection cameras installed along the Kottayam-Kochi route. We cannot come to the conclusion to claim that the actors have violated the road-safety rules. If the cameras can detect the violation, the notice will be given to the owner of RC (Registration Certificate), ”said Rajiv Puthalath, Joint Transport Commissioner, MVD.
After the person behind the wheels is identified, and if found guilty, he will be booked under section 184 of the Motor Vehicles Act. Police officials said that two people on the bike trying to record the video were definitely trying to catch up with the cars. Two people riding on the bike have also not been identified. Since most of the cameras are chaotic, it would be difficult to detect speed violations, the official said. If convicted, they will have to pay a fine of Rs 1500 for the first offense or jail time for six months, and a fine of Rs 3,000 for the repeat.
