Durga Puja 2024 Dates and Significance
Durga Puja, also called Durgotsava, is one of the most important festivals for the Bengali Hindu community. It is widely celebrated in Indian states like West Bengal, Bihar, Assam, Odisha, Jharkhand, Tripura, and also by the Bengali diaspora globally.

The festival honors Goddess Durga, believed to descend to Earth to defeat the buffalo demon Mahishasura, symbolizing the triumph of good over evil. The celebrations last four days and coincide with the final days of the nine-day Navratri festival.

Durga Puja also marks the goddess's symbolic return to her maternal home with her children. The festival represents her victory over Mahishasura and is celebrated with great enthusiasm by devotees.

Security Preparations in Bangladesh
The Inspector General of Police (IGP) in Bangladesh announced that enhanced security measures will be enforced at the puja mandaps. These steps were discussed during a law and order meeting at the Police headquarters. The IGP emphasized that a three-level security framework will be deployed for the entire duration of Durga Puja, including the pre-festival period and the immersion of idols post-celebration.
