DUSIB writes letter to Railways, says "Arrange for stay and then remove slums"

New Delhi: The Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) has written to the Railways seeking a Supreme Court order to remove slums along railway tracks. DUSIB said in its letter that people living here cannot be removed without making other arrangements for their stay. Some arrangements should be made around for their stay.

In a letter to the Railways, DUSIB said, the huts on railway land under the National Capital Region (NCR) Delhi Law (Special Provisions) (Second Amendment) Act, 2014 and the Delhi Slum and JJ Rehabilitation and Relocation Policy 2015 are protected, cannot be removed without any other stay for the people living here, so without alternative arrangements, their slums should not be removed.

DUSIB is building 45,857 flats at various locations in Delhi, which will be ready to move between March 2021 and December 2021. DUSIB wrote in its letter that DUSIB's policy is to make alternative arrangements for the people living there if the slum is demolished. Whether on the same land or in the vicinity, it is somewhere within a radius of 5 kilometres. Arrangements can also be made at a distance of more than 5 km if required.
