The Hague: Three months prior to explosions harming the submerged system, Dutch military intelligence informed the CIA of a Ukrainian plan to blow up the Nord Stream gas pipeline, according to news reports on Tuesday.

In coordination with German broadcaster ARD, national weekly Die Zeit, and Dutch public broadcaster NOS, the US spy agency then advised Kyiv not to proceed with the operation.

According to NOS, the Dutch Military Intelligence Services (MIVD), which learned of the plans from a Ukrainian source, alerted the CIA, who then warned Ukraine.

The Washington Post stated last week that a European spy agency had informed the CIA of the Ukrainian plans, but it did not specify which nation was to blame.

When questioned about the reports, Dutch Defence Minister Kajsa Ollongren declined to comment.

She told reporters at a press conference in Amsterdam, "I cannot comment on the work of our intelligence services," adding that Germany, Sweden, and Denmark were looking into the incident.

Underwater explosions rocked the Nord Stream 1 and 2 pipelines on September 26 as they were constructed to transport natural gas from Russia to Germany.
Along with Russia, France, Germany, and the Netherlands, these countries were among the major participants in Nord Stream.

Several nations, including Russia, the United States, and Ukraine, were accused, but they all denied guilt. Volodymyr Zelensky, the president of Ukraine, denied Kyiv's involvement once more earlier this month.

According to the allegedly intercepted Dutch intelligence document, Zelensky was unaware that top Ukrainian general Valerii Zaluzhnyi was in charge of the operation, which involved a small team of divers using a sailing boat.

It claimed that it had spoken with several international intelligence sources who were aware of the involvement of the MIVD, along with German media. The US Central Intelligence Agency was informed of the plan in June 2022, according to documents leaked by a US Air National Guard computer technician, according to The Washington Post.

The Wall Street Journal reported on Saturday that German investigators are looking into potential proof that Poland was used as a staging area for the operation.
